The excursion to Lake Escondido and Lake Fagnano has been specially designed for cruise passengers disembarking in Ushuaia for one day who wish to discover Patagonia’s most spectacular corners before returning to their ship. It’s a purely contemplative journey, crafted to let you calmly savor the awe-inspiring Austral Andes and the tranquil beauty of its lakes.
We’ll depart by bus directly from the ship’s gangway, heading north on National Route 3. As we leave the Beagle Channel behind, the majestic Olivia and Cinco Hermanos peaks will tower before us, and further along the expansive Carbajal Valley unfolds, home to a vast, commercially significant peat bog.
Along the way, you’ll glimpse on both sides of the road various winter valleys—settings for activities like snowmobile rides, snowshoe treks, or husky-pulled sleds. Our first stop is at the Haruwen winter center (closed on Mondays), home of the National Snow Sculpture Festival. There, we’ll visit the world’s southernmost artisan gin distillery for a tour and tasting, and explore a small museum that tells the story of the legendary national snowmobiles (Puma, Tehuelche, Siambretta) and their intrepid riders.
Later, we’ll reach Paso Garibaldi—the highest point of the Andes crossing on Argentine soil, with no border formalities required. From this natural balcony, you’ll enjoy unforgettable panoramic views of Lakes Escondido and Fagnano, framed by the Patagonian Andean forest.
Continuing on to Lake Fagnano, we’ll descend to its shore to appreciate its magnitude (over 100 km long and 7 km wide) and understand why it’s one of the largest bodies of water in South America.
Grand Finale of the Day
– The highlight of the day will be a traditional Fuegian lunch: lamb cooked on a spit, served in a winter lodge with plenty of time to savor this emblematic dish before returning to Ushuaia.
– After dessert and a brief moment to relax, we’ll resume our journey along Route 3 back to the port, arriving at approximately 4:00 PM—just in time to reboard your cruise.
Important: Subject to the cruise’s arrival and departure schedule. Due to weather conditions, the visit to Lake Fagnano may be substituted with another equally enchanting activity.

Due to changing weather conditions and the possibility of rain, we recommend dressing in layers — often referred to as the “onion style.” This way, you can remove layers as you warm up.
Wind and cold temperatures prevail throughout the year, with an average of around 6°C (43°F). The weather is very changeable — in a single day, you may experience moments of sunshine, rain, and even snow.
Cruise ship gate. Once a purchase is made, we contact all passengers via WhatsApp to reconfirm the schedule and meeting point.
The idea of being at the End of the World is to disconnect from everything for a while. Our vehicles are equipped with Wi-Fi; however, once we leave the city and head out on the road, there is no mobile signal or data coverage.
In this case, lunch is not included. However, we’ll make a stop at a winter center where you can enjoy a delicious Patagonian lamb meal or vegetarian options.
