This exciting adventure combines an exclusive navigation to the penguin colony, a visit to the southernmost fishing village in the world and an unforgettable gastronomic experience in the “Ruta de la Centolla”.
Located just 70 kilometers east of the city of Ushuaia. “The Spider Crab Route” is a path that runs through the fishing community of Almanza, a picturesque village and southernmost town in the country, which integrates local and artisan producers who not only specialize in crab, but also in the diverse marine gastronomy such as seafood and different fish options, all obtained in one of the highest quality marine environments in the world.
We leave Ushuaia very early in the morning, taking the RN3 towards the north, the only access road to the city, along a scenic route that runs through the Patagonian Andean forest surrounded by the Andes and crossing huge peat bogs in formation, a unique ecosystem of international value. We continue through the winter resorts, where all kinds of snow activities are practiced during the cold months, until we reach the intersection with Route “J”. There we head south again to the shores of the sea accompanied by the Lasifashaj River.
We will make an interpretative stop at Victoria Lagoon, with our professional guides who will provide us with information about the flora and fauna that inhabit this body of water.
Once in Puerto Almanza we will board a small boat to sail the waters of the Beagle Channel.
This type of smaller boat allows us to get closer to the islands, assuring us an exclusive and harmonic experience with nature, without invading the penguins’ natural habitat.
On the way to Martillo Island, through the protected and calm channels of the channel, we will enjoy unique landscapes and we will have the possibility of observing different species of marine birds.
Finally we will arrive at Martillo Island, natural home of the friendly penguins.
There we will be able to approach with the RIB to appreciate the two species that nest on the island: Magellanic and Gentoo penguins.
On the way back we will visit the village of about 15 fishing families. Almost all of them depend on artisanal fishing, with small boats. They fish for king crab, cultivate and collect seafood or practice trout farming. In this place you can see the richness of the way of life at the end of the world and the detail of the work in this gastronomic treasure.
Back in the village, you will enjoy a delicious local seafood dish in a setting of singular beauty.
Finally, we return to the city of Ushuaia.

Due to the changing weather conditions and the possibility of rain, we recommend dressing in layers, like an onion. This way, you can remove layers when you feel warm. For trekking and adventure excursions in general, it is essential to be dressed warmly and wear appropriate footwear: waterproof trekking clothes and boots are mandatory in order to participate in the activity.
Wind and cold predominate throughout the year, with an average temperature of $6^\circ$ C. It is very changeable, and in the same day, you can find moments of sun, rain, and even snow.
For this excursion, we will pick you up directly from your accommodation. After you make your reservation, we will contact you so that you can provide us with the address of your lodging.
The idea of being at the End of the World is to disconnect a little from everything. Our vehicles are equipped with Wi-Fi. However, once we leave the city and head out on the road, there is no mobile signal or data coverage.
Although we will be on a boat, some splashes may occur during the navigation and slightly wet your clothing.
