The Laguna Esmeralda Trekking excursion is one of the most accessible that can be done in the southernmost city in the world. Unique and comforting where the main objective is to reach the Emerald Lagoon.
They pick us up at our lodging heading north, about 20 minutes from the city. Once we arrive the guide will explain that we must cross the Tierra Mayor Valley through a very clear and marked trail depending on the season of the year we are in, we will cross several peat bogs and rocky terrain. Our legs will be all-terrain like 4×4 excursions.
After a little more of the forest, we continue our Trekking Laguna Esmeralda bordering the Esmeralda River until we reach the indescribable Laguna Esmeralda, a small lake of glacial origin, which owes its name to the color given to it by the sediments that come from the Ojo del Albino Glacier. . This color can only be seen in summer since in winter it will be frozen and covered with snow.
While we enjoy the view of the Lagoon we will recharge our batteries by eating a box lunch. We will be able to start our return, where the road will be familiar to us and we will have the last opportunity to appreciate the beauties that surround us. Once the Laguna Esmeralda Trekking is finished, we meet again with the vehicle that will be waiting for us to take us back to the city of Ushuaia.

Due to the changing weather conditions and the possibility of rain, we recommend wearing onion type clothing, i.e. in layers. For trekking and adventure excursions in general, it is essential to be warm and with the appropriate footwear: waterproof clothes and trekking boots, since it is MANDATORY for you to be able to do the activity.
Throughout the year the wind and the cold prevail, with an average temperature of 6º C. It is very changeable and in the same day you can find moments of sun, rain and even snow.
The difficulty of the trekking to Laguna Esmeralda is moderate. You should keep in mind that you will walk for approximately 4 hours (2 hours there and 2 hours back). The terrain is generally flat except in the last sector where there is a small hill.
We recommend this excursion for people over 12 years old.
No, unfortunately it is not possible to attend the excursions with animals.
The idea of being at the End of the World is to disconnect from everything. There is wifi in our vehicles. However, when we get away from the city and hit the road, there is no phone signal or data.
The delicious box lunches we offer during our trekking excursions include water, a sandwich and something sweet to replenish your energy.
