Overview
This catamaran excursion in Ushuaia includes a navigation around Isla de los Lobos, Isla de los pájaros, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. Once past the lighthouse, you navigate in an easterly direction where it is possible to appreciate excellent views of the Canal and the mountains. During the navigation we identified in the distance Puerto Almanza on the Argentine side, an artisanal fishing village, where the main product obtained in these latitudes is crab and mussels; and the Puerto Williams Naval Base on the Chilean side. Arriving at Isla Martillo, engines are turned off on the shore of the beach to watch the penguins in their habitat from the catamaran.
Two species of penguins coexist on this island, the Magellanic that reaches a height between 35 and 45 cm, weighs 3 kg, the head is black with a white stripe that part of the eye surrounds the ears and chin to join at the throat, the color of its plumage is black and white and helps it camouflage itself in the depths of the sea, its fur helps it maintain its body heat, it has a compact body, a thick layer of fat and a Chaplinesque gait; and the gentoo penguin that reaches a height between 75 and 90 cm are the fastest in the water, the males have a maximum weight of 8 kg.
Upon returning to the city of Ushuaia on the catamaran, you will sail closer to the coast of the Channel, which allows you to practice the sighting of the flora and fauna of the area. It is also possible to appreciate the Estancia Túnel and Estancia Remolino, where the semi-sunken hull of the Monte Sarmiento Steamship has been located since 1912.
One of the final views that the tour offers is the mountain range that surrounds the city of Ushuaia. It is an extremely rich route both from the historical and natural point of view.
