Overview
From the hand of Latitud Ushuaia Travel we will take you to live the most demanding adventure at the end of the world, the Laguna de los Témpanos and the Vinciguerra glacier where you will arrive at a glacier and its caves accompanied by a professional who will constantly assist you to finish the adventure safely.
The transport will pick us up at the accommodation and will take us 7 km from the city of Ushuaia to the valley of Andorra. The first part of the tour will be 2 km inside the valley where we will have the chance to get to know the peat bogs up close, a very special ecosystem of Tierra del Fuego, and we will cross a large melting river, which is born in the Vinciguerra glacier. All this site that we will visit is a Ramsar Site, due to the wetlands of international importance that are found in the area, and in turn because the peat bog in the valley of Andorra is recognized among the most beautiful in the world.
In the second part, and after those 2 km of calm walk through the valley, we will enter the native forest of lengas and guindos, where we will have the possibility of observing the different native species of trees, shrubs and even some orchids that grow in this environment. Inside the forest it is also a good opportunity to watch birds and why not a fox. In this part of the route is where we will begin to ascend the mountain and after two ascents that will require our effort, we will be well rewarded with a stop to recover energy at the foot of a small waterfall, already outside the vegetation limit in a small high valley. This place is one of the most beautiful on the route thanks to its infinite variety of colors and contrasts: the green of the forest and the colors of its flowers, the different grays of the rocks and the white and blue of the snow and the glacier that already we can see at the top of the mountain.
In the third part is where we will begin the last ascent, the most demanding, leaving the high valley and arriving at the Laguna de los Témpanos, where we will have time for photographs and appreciate the particular color of this lagoon of the Vinciguerra glacier. From the lagoon you can already see the glacier on the other side.
From here we will walk along the lagoon for about 10 minutes to finally reach the glacier and its ice caves. This is the only glacier in the Province of Tierra del Fuego whose lower section still presents tongue morphology. We are going to have the opportunity to get to know a glacier up close, touch the glacier ice, see the melting and internal rivers that form in it. In this place and sitting at the foot of the glacier, listening to the murmur of this ice giant, we will have our well-deserved box lunch. This food will make you curious to know the secret flavors of Ushuaia that you really can’t miss!
Once the excursion to the Laguna de los Témpanos and the Vinciguerra glacier is over, we will take photos and we will be ready to start the return, with the same demand; perhaps with the luck of finding a beaver and many more experiences.
